The City of Cheney has a Council-Administrator form of government. The mayor serves for two years and council members serve for four years, with neither having a limit on the number of terms. Council members serve staggered terms, with two positions being elected for four years, and then two years later the other three positions are elected for four years. The Governing Body receives monthly compensation.
The Cheney City Council meets on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are open to the public. People interested in speaking to the City Council should call City Hall (316-540-3622) to be placed on the agenda. Agendas are available before the meeting at City Hall and at the Cheney Public Library.
On occasion, the City Council schedules special meetings to address specific business. These meetings are published on the front door of City Hall ahead of time and are open to the public.
