A short 5 minutes north of the City of Cheney, Cheney Reservoir and Cheney State Park offers a variety of activities.
The Bureau of Reclamation completed Cheney Reservoir in 1964, which provides fish and wildlife management, flood control, and the water supply for the City of Wichita. The lake consists of 9600 surface acres of water.
Cheney State Park consists of 1,913 acres of park land, spanning Reno, Kingman, and Sedgwick counties. It offers several boat ramps and docks for the avid boater; campgrounds with hookups for your RV; great fishing with cleaning stations; and shelters, picnic areas, campgrounds, nature trails, and several modern cabins.
Cheney Reservoir is also a terrific sailing venue. The Ninnescah Sailing Organization hosts several regatta events throughout the season and informal races on Wednesday evenings.
